<<< !Physics FIXED! (Team Racegame.io) >>>

Shox 9 years ago updated by yeebuttny 9 years ago 15

Hello Drivers! We saw a lot of topics about 'new Physic'. We've been working hard to change new physic for ya! Now its look similar to the 'old physic' so i guess You will enjoy :) Write comments below!

Team Racegame.io ! :)

Thx, its a lot better than previous,

but i still have problem with "mouse lag". Car starts turning after lets say more than half a second and this movement isn't smooth as is "Old one". Car rapidly points new direction with much speed lose.

In "Old one" for me this was smooth movement. Maybe its only me, idk?

I'm concerned about the future of this game. Don't get me wrong on this, but I don't think the new physics is an upgrade. It is compared to the previous one, but it's still shit compared to the old version. Like, I can't take corners as how I used to do it with the old version, as the car slips way too much and reacts pretty late, as Yee said already. It also doesn't zoom out enough. Despite the higher speed, to me it feels like it is even smaller view, which also isn't good. And the physics make you go to the sides way too easily, you can't take the corners sharp and you often crash into the walls in corners. #makeracegameiophysicsgreatagain

IMHO,

This car movement has to do with new collision model. Previously car was directly pointing cursor, but now your car can change direction from hit and wont turn when something is in its way. This change was make with "new physic". This "upgrade" don't change much.

As Shox said below , they are looking for best solution. DEV Team change game to look more realistic, more "fancy" physics.

my suggestion to "mouse lag" is to disable rotation in physic engine (no force pushing to the right direction). Car points cursor. This should look as it was previously.

or

Add more force pushing car to the right direction (linear to change of direction and maybe clamped to max value).

DEV's try it off line if it applies.

Cheers and keep up good work, there is no other game (for now) with so much potential.

Thank you drivers for comments.
We have to check the 'mouse lag'. We still looking for the best solution for physics in the game :)

Team Racegame.io

To be honest, i lag all the time, so i can't have a full view here and i can't tell how smooth exactly the controls are. Maybe my connection sucks, idk.

Keep it up, great work, we like the game.

My latency (showed at bottom right) was/is around 50ms. When lag spikes come it rise max 2ms.

Mine ranges from 65 to over 100 or even over 200 and the game is unplayable.

WOW man, sic! I would even don't try to play if i can say "play".

Thanks guys, plays way better now! Only complaint left for me is it feels too slippery, like driving on ice all the time, maybe tone down the sliding or something? And I'll say again, everyone consider we're lucky the guys keep working and improving this game. Easy one of my top 3 IO games. Thanks Devs!

Thank you guys for feedback, we have decreased drifting and improved steering today. Also, now the camera is farther away. If for some reason you'r client has not updated properly (happens mostly on google chrome) refresh it using Shift + F5 (shortstory long - it hapens because of cookies).

IMHO,

i can say that camera now is OK!

steering, yes, is't improved but far away from old one and still "unnatural" but at least its react faster and smooth.

Now i suggest to do something with those "sticky cars". When car collide with another one they act like glued.

Tweak AI (better player records?), if it's mean to stay. Now AI is a biggest TROLL in game.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate Your hard work on this new physic model and whole game, but personally I DON'T LIKE NEW PHYSIC. All its gave to game is bad (bad steering, sticky car collisions, overall less control over car). I'm afraid that you hard work on this isn't worth it, but its your game and it seems like only me feel so.

Cheers, and keep up good work

We are really happy with your feedback - it means that you like the game and want to help that :)

The reason we are trying to stick with new physics is the fact, that we used physics framework, which in the future would be very usefull in further development of the game (like nitros, rain, snow). We will keep trying to improve the physics, if we keep failing we can always revert it to old physics.

Old physics has main problem - its nice, but its written from the scratch. Its very difficult for us to improve it.

Sorry for troubles this change is making

Like I said above. Collisions are awful, steering isn't good too.

But i don't ask you to revert old physic but you should try to implement old behavior that players liked (i assume).

eg.

Box2D have "Body->SetFixedRotation()" direction is changed from script. physic have no impact on direction. Car instantly point mouse position - old behavior but no fancy "sticky cars".

But if this kind of car behavior isn't what you wan't takes us to another problem:

I (and probably other players) don't know how you think this game should look. I saw simple game (simple graphics, simple steering, extremely fun and addicting. even trolls making "road block"). I was fighting with other players, escaping from troll's.

Now for me this is racegame2.io where you fight with steering an brainless AI, witch stick to you. Main principles have changed.

I loved "old one" behavior of car, its steering not the "code" behind it. No matter its physic, semi-physic or fake-physic doing job, result matter. It doesn't look realistic or natural but was fun.

If my vision is other than yours is OK, I hope that you finally iron everything out to look like you want it to.

Maybe for other players tis is OK and they like it as it is. Maybe even this model is better than old. Make some poll to check things they like or dislike and you will know if there is a problem or not.

correct if i'm wrong and sorry for long post.

Cheers, keep up good work DEV's

Everything here is my honest opinion.

+1

I actually think that you should stick with the new physics. It's not really much worse than the old version. It's not TOO slippery, it's actually pretty much like how a car acts, so it's fine like that. I'm also satisfied the camera zooms out more now, it helps me getting better lap + race times. Also the AI maybe are a bit too strong right now for the less skilled players, but at least there are no slow AI anymore. Like, it's more balanced out now, bots almost never take each other over now anymore, which is great. And I haven't had it so far that I got stuck to another car, I actually seem to bounce off of it often, I dunno how THAT comes but it's good! ;) Great job guys. I would really stick with these physics, especially as you said these physics can be upgraded while the old one can't. Though I don't see what could be updated any more... ;)

Yes, now its best physic from last two. You can even like it.

Physic i would say is much more better than in old one. I really don't like how car change its direction - but i understand why.

"Sticky car"

e.g. when you drive close to other car and touch, you often "stick" to other and can't change direction easily. Physics should allow this, but here car rotates around its center and other car is blocking.

or when you hit bottom side of other car and both of you end in "T" shape is hard to "get out".

these needs some tweaking to be more "fun" or realistic.

edit: maybe less friction between cars and more bounciness?

To AI its often seams to bee too sticky to its Path (like train) you can more easily interact with other player.

With real Physic DEV's can "easy" implement new features like Kacper said: nitro , weather (rain, snow), maybe some other car upgrades like better engines, tires, weights mods, etc. who knows!(shop is planed )
